Third Thursday is a formal consortium of Social Enterprises. Our aim is to provide a platform for participating Social Enterprises to grow their businesses through collaborative working, while retaining their individual identities.
Third Thursday is a newly formed Enterprise Agency located in Hertfordshire with a selected number of highly credible and award winning social enterprises and mainstream businesses that had the foresight to see the way things were going and spent the last year honing our model. We specialise in developing and supporting social enterprises to participate in the Government’s vision as outlined in their paper ‘Building the Big Society’. The document says “We will support the creation and expansion of mutuals, co-operatives, charities and social enterprises, and support these groups to have much greater involvement in the running of public services.”
However as well as specialising in the social enterprise sector we intend to react positively to the Government’s ‘Programme for Growth’ which promotes small business procurement, in particular by introducing an aspiration that government contracts should be awarded to small and medium-sized businesses and by publishing government tenders in full, online and free of charge.
Third Thursday is well placed with the right skills to assist in developing services and programmes locally and to work in partnership delivering both the ‘Programme for Government’ and ‘Building a Big Society’ and also to be a flagship model of how Local Authorities with an Enterprise Agency can be the solution for business growth and development in the coming years.
Our participants are from a variety of backgrounds, all with their roots firmly placed in enhancing the community around them. Examples include: HCMA, a charity specialising in working within the public sector, offering training in business, NLP, management, coaching & mentoring; and Positive Strides, a film and media training organisation addressing the needs of targeted groups through the creation of structured educational courses based inter alia on the production of a film.
